People find excuses to stay on their jobs because they are afraid to do something different, they are commit to their jobs but one they their boss said I am sorry we are eliminating personal and you are lay off. At the moment nothing make sense, you think the world came to an end. But everything in life happen for a reason.
May be the time to move on get a better job or start a home base business. Some time by changing a few things in your life you can make it better.
This are the things you can do to start you job search,
1. Get your personal life in order before you start looking for a job, prepared to accept what it takes to find a new job. Prepared a job campaign and put it ahead of other priorities. Make a commitment.
2. Set a target amount of time you will spend on your job search. spend time writing your resume and cover letter.
3. Gather facts and accomplishments about your career to date, dates of employments, special skills that make you unique, education include any courses you have taken since high school, include any training your company has provided or you have paid for. Get it all on paper you will need it for you resume, cover letter and interviews.
4. Create a personal portfolio agencies are always looking for new clients. You are the product to sell consider you are you own company called ME INC. you need to create a product that your prospects (employer) sees value in. Your portfolio should demonstrate and support your abilities during the interview. Include in your portfolio letter of success anything you create.
5. Make a list of companies you think you like to work for. Collect name of the CEO/President, phone number and address of the company you are applying for.
6. Get organized, Cell phone, e-mail address and the message in the answering machine should be professional. A home office is ideal for job hunting. Begin gathering who you will use for references. Find people you can trust, name addresses, phone numbers and e-mail address, let your references know that some one might be calling them.
Set up a system to track who you send your resume to and jobs you had applied.
